![]() WRITING A GRANT FOR A YOKOGAWA
Although technology budgets across the country are tough on teachers, a number of instructors – from Delaware, to Indiana, to California -- have successfully written grants for a Yokogawa MC-8T or DMC-8XT imaging station. Here’s why:
Increase Student Attention—kids in the back of class can see better when 3-D objects, documents, etc. are shown on a large screen. When they can see better, they’re more apt to pay attention and the information is more likely to stick. Increase Student Participation—you can easily and quickly rotate the camera head 360 degrees to have the kids appear on the screen. Kids love the Yokogawa for show and tell. Cost-Effective Distance Learning—the Yokogawa camera combined with a Web Image Server is a low-cost, effective way to share information and images live over a network or the Internet. Communicate with the building next door, across the country or across the ocean. ISDN lines and expensive video conferencing equipment are unnecessary. Increase Your Teaching Effectiveness—use the annotation tablet to highlight important points for emphasis. Kids can get a better look at what you want to show them – whether it’s correcting an English paper, or how to dissect a worm. Point the camera at yourself to become larger-than-life when your image appears on the big screen. Develop Student Presentation Skills—students have the opportunity to stand up in class and make a presentation (and be seen by the kids in the back). Use the Yokogawa as a video camera to have the student making a book report or presentation appear on the big screen. The skill to make effective presentations – which will be developed by students with a Yokogawa in the room -- is an asset students can use their whole lives!
Increase Parent Involvement & Student’s Pride—use a VCR with the Yokogawa to record student presentations. Send the students home with a videotape for their parents to see.
Making Your Job Easier—one of our goals at Alliance International is to provide tools that make it easier for teachers to do their job. The Yokogawa has a writing tablet, which in many instances is easier to use than conventional ink markers or messy chalk. Including an LCD monitor on the unit makes it easy for you to see what you’re doing (without turning your back on the students). When seeking funding for the Yokogawa, remember your Principal will want to use it for staff meetings and all-school assemblies. And, you could share the cost with other departments. We have Yokogawa’s being used in schools by English teachers, music teachers, art teachers, math teachers, sports coaches, librarians, 1st grade teachers, and last but not least, the science teachers. Don’t forget to include one of our projectors for bundled savings. Good luck with writing your grant! |
